About This Event
Students of Kathak Kala Academy and IPAC present a Kathak Sandhya. The theme of our concert is \"Kathak in the Temple and the Court.\" Kathak dance has taken many forms through the centuries. In Hindu temples, Kathak was part of bhakti worship. Through expressive abhinaya, dancers shared stories of gods and goddesses, most notable of Shri Krishna, whose playful and heroic character inspired many kathak compositions and movements. In the medieval era, Kathak found a place in the royal courts of Mughal and Rajput kingdoms. There, Kathak expanded to include technical displays of footwork, chakkars, and abstract nritta as well as romantic expressions alongside the musical forms of thumri and ghazal. In this concert. The students of the Kathak Kala Academy share this rich and diverse history of Kathak dance through their performances of Kathak\'s signature repertoire. We invite everyone to join us at CSUN Plaza Del Sol on April 2, 2022 at 6:15 pm.
